Straight edge means I'm better than you...the musical fan blog of a Liverpudlian musician/haphazard producer who is very poor, both morally and financially. Listening habits can be found on Last FM.
Okay, hmm, how do I feel about this?
I will not talk about the piracy element at all because you will have read 20,000 blogs essaying about it with statistics and facts over the last few days. Needless to say I don’t agree with it being taken offline but I shall mention my non-album leaking uploads related to mediafire instead of twattering on about it…
Okay, the last thing I uploaded to Megaupload was a Mansun - Six era b-sides collection. All from CDs no longer available to purchase, all rare, shared because I know people would love to hear a few of those tracks.
Before that I had uploaded Wildhearts B-side collections, put up EVERY SINGLE Manic Street Preachers b-side (that took time, ladies, gents and transgenders), and 95% of Suede’s b-sides. Not to mention the countless Faith No More A* quality live bootlegs I put up, rare bastard ones! I did this for a lot more bands too so now I just feel a bit gutted about my lead in legal sharing being cut off.
Sure, there’s always mediafire, rapidshare and countless other sharing sites but Megaupload was so bloody simple, no pop up windows (that I can remember!) and no multiple banner ads stating “CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD!” and giving you a pissing virus or whatever.
It’s a sad day for the sharing community, and whilst I feel Anonymous targeting the FBI sites and such may be a bit urgh, at least it’s a sign that people are pissed about it, so on that point I say it’s deserved. If any other upload sites get taken away I may just become what many American departments would declare a terrorist and make more of an effort to make myself a human bomb against the FBI*. Always good to get a Zombina lyric in at the end of a post…
*if I don’t appear online again you should presume I’m being waterboarded.
